Ask for samples
Before placing a large order, it's sensible to request samples of a printing company's cards, in various colours, finishes, fonts and weights.
Seeing a company's offerings online is not quite the same as evaluating them in person. When you have a card in your hand, you can see its true colours and can determine how flimsy or robust it feels. It will also give you a chance to check the sharpness of the text and imagery, and allow you to see how various finishes (such as gloss or matte) look in real life.
Whilst requesting samples before you place an order with a particular company will, of course, take extra time, it's an important step which will ensure that you end up completely satisfied with the cards you eventually purchase.
